I love a good smoothie. Odd thing is, I really don't love juice. I mean, it's okay and I appreciate the occasional carbonated juice, but really I would rather go for water. However, I LOVE SMOOTHIES. Maybe because it makes me feel like I am doing something healthy for my body, which could be true or false depending on the smoothie. Or maybe because it's the closest thing to drinking a milkshake for breakfast.
Well, because I love smoothies so much, I have had my eye on a really nice blender. My old blender that we have had for 9.5 years was starting to make a high squealing pitch. I have been speaking to it in nice tones, hoping that it would hold on because it's hard to swallow the price tag on some of those awesome blending machines. However, I stumbled across a great deal in early December and
bought myself had my husband gift it to me for Christmas. He wrapped it up and there is sat taunting me under the tree for weeks. Finally, when Christmas rolled around I couldn't wait to test it out and I don't think it has rested a day since.
In my search for really good tasting yet healthy smoothies, I stumbled across Simple Green Smoothies. I have no idea why I hadn't heard of this website/blog before. There are dozens of recipes and they are all delicious.
So far my favorite is the Berry Cherry Jubilee. I add a couple tablespoons of coconut oil and it keeps my satisfied for a few hours. It's like having dessert for breakfast. I buy my cherries and berries at Costco, frozen in bulk. It's super easy to throw in the blender in the morning.
Another favorite is Beginner's Luck. It is sweet, refreshing and full of greens that I don't even notice are in there. It's like eating a salad that tastes like a tropical drink.
I have a list of smoothies I'm waiting to try. Among them are:
I should add that my kids have become big fans of these smoothies. Previous to finding this site, they would groan every time I pulled out my blender. Now, even my kid that despises fruit {she's a veggie girl} opts for smoothie in the morning.
Simple Green Smoothies also has a 30 day challenge, complete with shopping lists. It would be a great way to break into a healthier routine. I haven't joined the challenge, but have been thinking about it. And really you don't need a super expensive blender {though it's pretty fun}, my old one would have worked just fine, had it not been on the verge of death.
And no, I was not paid to endorse Simple Green Smoothie website. I really just love their content.
Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
